Veterans’ Guitar Project – Austin

In 2013, as a lead up to our Austin concert, Kim ran a guitar class for veterans. The class of 10 veterans was held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in downtown Austin on Sunday nights for two months before the concert, and culminated with a performance with our special guest Kirby Kelley. Our Fall 2013 class, led by Kirby Kelley and classical guitarist and Marine Jeremy Coleman, was held at the Armstrong Community Music School and performed beautifully at St. David’s on Veterans’ Day. Kim’s story about the beginning of the class can be found here, on St. David’s website:

Those interested in the next Veterans’ Guitar Class can contact Lynn Smith-Henry (Lt Col US Army Ret.) at: butchard@gmail.com .The classes will be held on Sunday afternoons at the Armstrong Community Music School, with performances at St. David’s. The class runs on the semester schedule and is free of charge for all participants. Class resumes in mid – January.

The Spring class will be taught by blues slide guitarist Kirby Kelley and classical guitarist / Marine veteran Jeremy Coleman. More information about Kirby Kelley’s guitar playing and teaching experience can be found under the “Who is I?” tab on our home page.
